River House
Capacity for 5 people
A Literary Refuge
The River House is a charming granite chalet, built in the 1960s by the renowned writer António Alçada Baptista. Inspired by his grandfather, the first to build a house in Serra da Estrela, and by his father, former mayor of Covilhã, António created this literary retreat over a waterfall, surrounded by stunning natural landscapes.
In this picturesque house, António Alçada Baptista found inspiration to write his first book, "Peregrinação Interior Vol. 1". The chalet also hosted illustrious friends of the author, such as the Portuguese writer José Cardoso Pires, who wrote one of his books here, and the Brazilian writers Jorge Amado and Zélia Gattai.

“The location was a dream, the house is beautiful, the people who hosted us were truly warm and pleasant. I will always remember this trip with a smile.”
“An excellent place for a mental retreat, amidst nature with beautiful landscapes. A place worth visiting more than once. Highly recommend.”
"Lovely place. Very spacious. The owner of the house was very attentive and welcoming. The only downside is that the house is quite cold, but there are heaters in the bedrooms and living room, which make the rooms more comfortable. A stay different from what we've had before, great for those looking for something more rustic. Easy access, close to the tower, with a river passing behind the house. Highly recommend."
